Blue-Green algae is not algae. It is a form of bacteria called cyanobacteria, commonly found in ponds, slow-moving rivers, and lakes that are commonly used as sources for drinking water.
Blue-green algae blooms are most commonly found in shallow, still water that gets a large amount of sunlight. You can tell if a certain body of water has toxic blue-green algae if you look closely at the color of the water and its surface.

How can i protect myself from exposure to toxic blue-green algae?
Water-to-Go has not lab-tested our filter to specifically measure removal of cyanobacteria toxins. However, there is sufficient information available to predict Water-to-Go filtration capability. Water-to-Go's filter uses a nano glass strand mesh which can remove >99.9999% of bacteria. For Cyanobacteria that produce microcystin or anatoxin-a toxins, removing the microorganism removes 95% of the toxin and with for cylindrosperopsin toxin producing microorganisms, 50% of the toxins. The nano glass strand mesh will also remove extracellular toxins that have been absorbed to particles of organic matter or clay based silt. Studies of pond water and slow moving streams, the prime location for cyanobacteria “algae” blooms, indicate that organic matter and silt particles are over 2 microns in diameter (63 to 2 microns). Much larger than a virus. Water-to-Go's filter is expected to remove >99.99% of these particles. For the remaining extracellular toxins that are dissolved in water, the EPA states activated charcoal (which is part of our 3-in-1 filter) is effective in removing microcystin, anatoxin-a and cylindrosperpsin toxins

Amazing product and company. Highly recommend. One of the few (only?) filters on the market that also removes viruses at a reasonable price and easy to carry/transport size. Shout out to Paul, the gentleman that works for Water to Go that responded to my message and resolved a tech issue I was experiencing in less than a day!! Will be recommending this brand to everyone and I will be back for more in the future. :)
Water-Togo was very responsive to my questions. Delivery was timely and having the water bottle gave us confidence about drinking water in South American countries.
I got this for a trip to India and all the water I drank went through the filtration system in this bottle. A companion got sick for 24 hours during the trip from the filtered hotel water but with this water bottle, I had no issues. I wish it was insulated but filtered water was still wet and did the trick health wise.
This isn't a knockoff! It lasts about 3 months and I use my water bottle daily. The last couple of weeks before the filter needs to be replaced it is harder to drink water from the bottle. That's just the nature of the design. It's pricey -but it filters just about everything.
I’ve been using one of these for a while, purchased this one for my somewhat anxious husband. He appreciates the fact it filters out particles as fine as viruses! Great for international travel and/or camping. No more plastic bottle waste!!!
Improved taste without spending on disposable bottles
I live in a very old apartment with very old pipes, but this water bottle’s built in filter improves the taste and quality without the frustration and waste of store bought water bottles. While I’d prefer it if the container itself was larger, that’s only a matter of convenience that has no bearing on how well it works. You definitely have to take care not to fill it to the top, since the internal filter will displace the water inside.
I recently used it on a hike that I did and I tried the stream water a bit and then I used the filter water bottle and Noticed a big difference in the taste. The water bottle is very easy to transport and light. The bottle also seals really well. I forgot to put it on the side pocket and left it inside with my other stuff and none of the water leaked out. Very happy with the water bottle.
Excellent for what it is. Can you filter lots of water? No. Can you filter water for yourself? Yes. Any outdoor activity, you already have a water bottle, why not have one that saves you from turning your shorts into the aftermath of a day at Taco Bell.
Had to buy a 2nd one. Not because the first was bad, but because I wanted to give my kid one for boyscout trips. Boiling water to drink is useful knowledge but it’s time consuming. So whilst the troop is boiling water and doing other water purifying things, my boy will be hydrated. While learning to be awesome
